10th Bangalore VHF Day Fox Hunt

The Tenth Bangalore Day Fox Hunt - Bangalore ARDF was held in Bangalore on Sunday, 17 May 2009. The Fox / Game Controller was VU2POP - Pratap Kumar. The event was organised as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of BARC and Hamfest India 2009.

The event was flagged off at 8 am by Shri Tilak Kumar, Editor, Deccan Herald and Managing Director, The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited. The flag off location was the Bharat Scouts & Guides Hq., where the BARC meets every second Sunday of the month for the monthly meeting. The Chief Guest also released a Special Postal Cover brought out marking the event. The ARDF Special Postal Cover and the Special Cancellation was brought out by extraordinary efforts of Ajoy - VU2JHM.
Once the event was flagged off, the competing teams went out to elevated locations to take the bearings with their directional antennas. The first signal was at 0900 hours.

The first team reached the fox hole at 12.33 more than 2 hours after the official deadline expired at 9.30 am. The fox was hidden off Kanakapura Road, near Kaggalipura Village, in South Bangalore. The location of the fox was a real scenic spot with lush greenery and a water fall.

The Fox Hunt Winners are: 1st Place: Hariharan Srinivasan (VU3HEA), Srinivas Shenoy 2nd Place: Balaji K. (VU3PZA) & Binu (VU3BJZ 3rd Place: H N Suresh Kumar (VU2HNS) & Vikas Kashyap (SWL) Consolation prize for the youngest team : Deepa Girimaji & Abhay Girimaji

Once the first three teams reached the spot, the location was announced on the band to enable everyone to reach the place for lunch and fellowship. Nearly 75 hams & SWLs assembled in no time. The birthday of OM Ismail - VU2QNY coincided with this event. VU3NOI had carried in a big birthday cake for Ismail who turned 74 that day and happily celebrated the day among hams and SWLs.

The event was well covered by the print media and TV, who also made it to the fox location and covered the entire event till the end.

Like all good things have to come to an end, the event ended after lunch. The sky was dark and overcast and as the participants were leaving there came a heavy downpour which got a few on the two wheelers stranded for quite a while but never dampened their spirits. All in all, everyone enjoyed the event to the max.

The organisers, BARC & Hamfest India 2009, thank VU2POP - Pratap, for locating a fabulous spot for the fox-hole and technical coordinations, all the participants for taking part, the net-controllers for announcements, the electronic and print media, the sponsors, donors & well-wishers for making this event a great success.
